Back to Reality, Back to Routine

Summer is ending--what does that mean for you and how will you adjust?

You’re probably being bombarded with “Back to School” messaging.

This might resonate directly if you are in school or if you have children in school, but whether you do or not, we all feel the “Back to Reality” of summer coming to a close. Working full weeks (if your office has summer Fridays, you are lucky!), vacations ending, and days getting shorter and shorter; it’s always hard to say goodbye.

It might seem daunting or downright dreadful to go back to your routine--so here are some helpful tips to reconnect with both yourself and your partner during a time when you might feel overwhelmed at the thought:

  • Make time for yourself—whether it’s an extra long shower after a day at work, a workout class you’ve been wanting to try, or your favorite takeout meal—make smaller, meaningful moments that brighten your day.
  • Relax on the weekends—Summer is great because it can feel like a months-long weekend. But rest and recovery doesn’t end with summer! Choose one way to rest during Saturday or Sunday. Pick up a new book, go for a walk outside, or take a quick nap if you can! Just because the weekday is busier doesn’t mean you have to overpack your weekends with everything you wanted to do Monday-Friday.
  • Make a fall/winter to-do list—when you feel a little more rested and recharged, go see many of the awesome things there are to do in the upcoming season! Apple picking, camping, haybale rides, or just go out and observe the beautiful fall foliage. It’s always great to have something on the calendar to look forward to.

And, of course, if you haven’t finished Seven Circles, jump back in! Colder weather means more time inside, which means more time to get cozy and deepen your connection with a circle.
